The emblem of the Karaburun Municipality mentions 1902 as the year of its foundation. But research and the readings of the Devlet-i Osmaniye registers, the almanacs of Aydin and Izmir as well as the almanacs of the Turkish Republic show us that the Karaburun Municipality was founded long before this date. According to the almanacs the first mayor of Karaburun was Mehmet Ali Efendi, who was in function from 1881 till 1886.
Towards the end of the 19th century Karaburun was successively a sub-district first of the Province of Aydin, than of the county of Çesme and finally of the Province of Izmir. During this period Karaburun started growing towards the status of a municipality. In 1900 Karaburun obtained the status of county and thus its municipality was recognized officially. Therefore the date of 1902 is mentioned in its emblem.
