The Karaburun Peninsula is located on the Turkish Aegean coast at the entry of the Bay of Izmir. It forms the northern part of the Urla headland. Northern of the Karaburun Peninsula lies the Greek island of Lesbos and westwards the island of Chios (15 miles).
Karaburun City is situated on the northern part of the Peninsula. Karaburun has two small islands in front of its coast. Most of the Peninsula has a difficult terrain. The north-south oriented Bozdag mountain range (1.218) splits the Peninsula into two parts.
Karaburun is connected to Izmir by a curvy coastal road. The distance to Izmir is 100 km. The road along the west-coast takes you to the popular holiday resort of Çesme (46 km). A regular bus service takes you from the bus station of Üçkuyular in Izmir to Mordogan and Karaburun.
The municipalities of Karaburun and Mordogan are making great efforts to install a regular connection with Izmir over sea.
