In old days the village of Saip used to be a quite important commercial center due to its little harbour, from where goods and products were traded between Karaburun and Izmir. The village was inhabited by both Muslims and Orthodox Greeks. According to the records of the 1891 Almanac, its population amounted 385 persons. In 1935 Saip had 391 persons living on its territory. The villagers were living from trade and goat and sheep breeding. The stables were located at what today is the old city center of Karaburun. That’s why the elderly still use the name of “Ahirli”, meaning “the stables” when talking about Karaburun City.
Today about 220 persons are living in Saip. Their main income is from agricultural activities and goat or sheep breeding. Some of them are also earning some living from small scale fishing activities.
The village of Saip has quite some old stone houses, an old mosque and some nice natural scenery.
