The Karaburun Peninsula has been inhabited ever since prehistory. Throughout the past the Peninsula was a stage to a number of mythological tales and influenced by important cultures. Therefore it has a rich historical and cultural inheritance. The fact that the Peninsula is not that animated and visited as most of the other holiday resorts in Turkey, might give the (wrong) impression that the Peninsula has nothing to offer for tourists. However we do believe that the Karaburun Peninsula possesses all features required by the concept of alternative tourism. The fact that even countries, who earn important income from mass tourism, start to abandon this form of tourism and need to develop projects to repair the damages caused by this kind of tourism, is another positive advantage for Karaburun. Its unspoiled nature, openhearted people and its peculiar culture make the Karaburun Peninsula to one of the best placed candidates of this new tourism concept. The Karaburun Peninsula has the potential to offer a very wide range of activities. Sea, underwater, trekking, village accommodation, eco and agro-tourism programs are all perfectly realizable on the Karaburun Peninsula. With the right policy and with the support of the local authorities and the people of the Peninsula, the Karaburun Peninsula can get its due place on the international tourism scene. We can easily state that the tourism potential of the Karaburun Peninsula lays in its unspoiled nature and in its people.
